Geotechnical Instrumentation

Geotechnical instrumentation refers to the instruments used to monitor geotechnical projects or sites requiring such monitoring. Geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring are essential for the successful completion of a geotechnical projects. Limited geotechnical instrumentation may be needed for simple projects but the demands on geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring can be very demanding for critical projects such as tunnels, slopes, and excavations next to sensitive structures.

The principal parameters of interest in geotechnical monitoring are: (1) structural or soil deformations, (2) stresses acting on structural elements (wall and bracing), and 3) ground water level and pore water pressure. Those three elements can be measured with our accurate monitoring systems as follows;

Inclinometer

Inclinometer is one of geotechnical instrumentation to measure the lateral displacement caused by embankment, excavation, natural or man made slope.

Inclinometer pipe can be installed on soil or inside retaining structure such as soldier pile, diaphragm wall, etc.

• The test procedure is based on ASTM D6230

Piezometer

• Piezometer is one of the geotechnical instrumentation that used to measure pore water pressure at specific point underground below ground water level. Mostly piezometer is used to measure the fluctuation of pore water pressure during the embankment work, reclamation, excavation, pile driving. For more comprehensive analysis, the result can be used to estimate degree of consolidation, soil behavior, also early warning monitoring system.

• The test procedure is based on ASTM D7764

Extensometer

In soil improvement work, control on settlement is the key for the successful method and work. Settlement can be measured by using settlement plate and extensometer. Extensometer is built to measure settlement on certain depth or soil layer also it can measure heave under loading or unloading soil condition due to construction works such as excavation, fill, and embankment.

Water Level Meter

•Open standpipe piezometer or water level meter is one of geotechnical instrumentation to measure ground water level, usually done on embankment, excavation, dewatering works and can be combined with piezometer to calculate excess pore pressure. It was done by simply installing 2 inch perforated pipe and measure using water level meter sensor which will 'beeping' if it touch the water. Standard test method is based on ASTM D5092.

Settlement Plate

• Settlement plate is one of geotechnical instrumentation to measure the settlement on certain location below the surface ground. It is simple equipment by using plate and rod (riser pipe) and monitor the changes of level or settlement on using water level device or total station it was conducted based on ASTM D6598.

Strain Gauge

• Strain gauge is multipurpose instrument to measure strain, we use vibrating wire strain gauge by Geokon. It can be applied on many construction works. On piling it was used to evaluate load transfer along the pile during axial load test. Another common application of strain gauges is used on strutting structure to evaluate stresses on it.

Integrated Remote Monitoring

For comprehensive live monitoring on many sensors, we also provide live monitoring system so you wont missed any data for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 4 weeks a month and as long as you need the monitoring. By using cloud system you can also see the live reading and take data any time using smartphone, in addition it can be set up for early warning system to ensure the safety of your project.
